Definitely should have watched the other 6 before this one. The whole movie felt like one big fan-service of a franchise I'm not a fan of. All that call backs to what happened in what I now know was movie number 6 in New York and allot of old actors having short reappearances felt very disconnected at times.
Also I just realized that 'Scary Movie' and 'Scream' are two different franchises. I always thought that ghost face character was from a comedy what I now know was Scary Movie. Because he looks so silly that I just couldn't comprehend him coming out of anything else but a joke. So I went into the theatre with the expectation of being scared by little jump scares here and there but no real horror. As soon as the trailer for scary movie 6 played before the film I realized my mistake mentally prepared the be scared shitless.
Luckily that didn't happen. They seemingly kept the same timing and flow of a the first movie, so a horror movie from the 90's. That meant cliché long looks at the camera, waiting for the antagonist too open the door before you start running and everything being explained so often that even the last braincell gets plot. What made the completely random plot twist at the end even more weird. There was really no build up or clues to the reveal it just felt blend.
It was still an enjoyable movie. It had it's moments through out some funny hits or random German translations. And most of all I went there with friends so it really wasn't a waisted evening - I had fun.
P.S. I am really looking forward to the release of Scary Movie 6.
